Get Involved at HES!

Are you looking for a way to get involved in your student's school? The School Advisory Council and Home and School Group are both always looking for and welcoming to new members. These groups, as well as the school itself, are also often looking for volunteers to help out with trips and events.

The purpose of a School Advisory Council (SAC) is to act as an advisory body to the school principal and to the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education on a wide range of issues, including policies, curriculum and programs, school practices, student-support services, fund-raising, parent-school communication and school improvement. Most importantly, an SAC participates in the ongoing efforts of the school to continuously improve student achievement and school performance.

School Advisory Councils are volunteer organizations that were established by the Nova Scotia Education Act, and are made up of parents, community members, the school principal, teachers and school support staff. Each school within the CCRCE has a School Advisory Council.

The HES SAC will hold its second meeting on November 14th at 6:00pm at the school. Elections will be held for Chair and Co-chair at this meeting. Please come check it out, and please share with any community members that may be interested in attending.

Our Home and School is a very active group involved in fundraising which helps teachers and students through supplementing our curriculum programs. The Home and School provides money for school trips, for entertainment, for programs that enrich the learning outcomes. The Home and School assists teachers with extra-curricular activities as well as bringing resources to the school. Please feel free to join our school community group and become involved with Hilden Elementary.

The next Home and School meeting of the year will be held on November 21st at 6:30pm at the school. We hope to see you there!

If you are interested in helping out with school events, you will need to complete and submit a Volunteer Package prior to being able to interact with students. The documents are linked below, and we can send home a printed copy - just let us know! The school is able to provide more opportunities to students when volunteers are able to help out. Sometimes as an hour of time would be very helpful. For example, with more volunteers to tie skates, our students would have more time on the ice to try skating!

These packages do take a few weeks to complete, so please get started now if you think you may want to join us for future events!
